Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children
Today marks the 41st anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision on January 22, 1973, which legalized abortion nationwide. This day has had tragic consequences for our nation and perpetuating a “culture of death.”
In all the Dioceses of the United States of America, January 22 is observed as a particular day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion. At Mass today, the priests wore violet vestments and all gathered in prayer for the end to abortion.
In addition, Kevin Lenius, the President of the Conception Seminary Collge Pro-Life Committee reminded all to pray and fast for all the unborn, all expectant mothers and fathers, and for those marching for life in Washington D.C. As part of the day’s events, all were invited to assemble in the Holy Cross Oratory (seminarian’s chapel) to pray the Rosary in solidarity with those marching in D.C., and to pray for the end of abortion in our nation.
The toll bell was rung 41 times in remembrance of all those victims of abortion during the past 41 years since the Roe v. Wade decision. All were invited to pause in silence and prayer as the bell was tolled.
