Conception Abbey installs and blesses Stations of the Cross

On Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, after many months of planning, restorations, and finally installation, the historic Stations of the Cross once again adorn the walls of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception on the campus of Conception Abbey and Conception Seminary College.

The stations were removed from the Basilica during the refurbishing and renewal that was completed in 1999 and placed in storage for many years. Abbot Benedict recently appointed a committee of monks to undertake the project of restoration and historical research into the stations that are of the school of Beuronese art that corresponds with the rest of the artwork in the Church.

More information about the stations and the project of restoration can be read in the upcoming April 2018 edition of Tower Topics.

On the first Friday of Lent, Abbot Benedict blessed the stations and the gathered monks, seminarians, and guests prayed the Way of the Cross, a Catholic devotional marking the events of Christ’s condemnation and crucifixion in Jerusalem.
