Deck the Halls
Outside, the snow covers the rolling hills. If you were hoping for a white Christmas, you got it. Inside, the monks are preparing for the Nativity of the Lord. Much preparation from many hands goes into putting together a beautiful and festive Christmas celebration. It takes help from musicians (the organists and choir), monks to decorate, Mass servers, table waiters, and any other jobs that come up during these days.
Yesterday we decorated the monastery- putting up Christmas trees and assorted decorations. This afternoon, we decorated the Basilica in preparation for Christmas Vespers and Midnight Mass. Yes, our Midnight Mass is at 12:00am.
The monks begin decorating the sanctuary. I wanted a “Before and After” shot, but I showed up a little late, so this is the best I can offer.
Of course, many hands make light work.
Below: Christmas trees placed in the monastery refectory and monastery coffee room, respectively.
Please keep posted for plenty of Christmas pictures.
